Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in California, US, is offering 3D digital breast tomosynthesis for breast cancer screening.

Digital breast tomosynthesis is a 3D imaging modality that allows radiologists to identify and characterise individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue.

Hoag Breast Care Center breast imaging director Gary Levine said that tomosynthesis not only allows more reliable detection of breast cancer but will also reduce the number of unnecessary call backs for additional testing.

Hoag, a not-for-profit regional healthcare delivery network, consists of two acute-care hospitals, seven health centres and three urgent care centres.
