Chinese Hospital located in San Francisco, California, US, is planning to add a new $160m outpatient facility in Chinatown.
The building will replace the original hospital building with a seven-story, seismically safe facility which will include a new 22-bed skilled nursing unit and 54 regular beds, San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Chinese Hospital chief operating officer Linda Schumacher was quoted by the news agency as saying that there is very limited space in the current hospital and that is the reason why it is hoping to move forward with the replacement.
If the Planning Commission approves a required conditional use permit, a new outpatient infusion clinic, which facilitates chemotherapy, intravenous antibiotics and blood transfusions, will be moved into the building’s second floor.
The Chinese Community Health Plan, which provides insurance for Asian seniors, individuals and businesses, will also use the building.
The three-year project is expected to eliminate a 41-space parking structure and, if the project is approved, patients could move into the new facility by 2016.
The current hospital will carry on operations during the construction and will later be transformed into a medical building which is expected to include diagnostic and treatment services, clinics and administrative offices.
