England’s Care Quality Commission (CQC) has told a mental health hospital in Birmingham that it must improve standards of care.
A review of Woodbourne Priory in Edgbaston conducted in August revealed that the hospital was not meeting two of the essential standards of quality and safety, the care and welfare of people and safeguarding people using the service from abuse.
The hospital provides inpatient care for adults and young people with mental health needs and problems with substance misuse.
CQC West Midlands and East Midlands regional director Andrea Gordon said the it identified unacceptable failings at the hospital’s Mulberry Unit and demanded that improvements are made.
"We have received an action plan from Priory Healthcare Limited detailing the improvements they intend to make at the Mulberry Unit and we will be making further unannounced visits to the hospital to check on their progress,” Gordon added.
The CQC said if necessary improvements are not made it will consider enforcement action.
