Truman Medical Centers (TMC), a not-for-profit, two acute-care hospital health system in Kansas City, US, has announced the opening of The Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Center in early 2014.

A $2.3m grant from the R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation will support the cancer care centre, which is expected to focus on high-quality care, comfort and safety and providing a healing environment for patients and their families.

TMC president/CEO John Bluford said, "The R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation gift is another spark in the collaboration that exists among 15 hospital and research organisations throughout the region and spurs advancement of all of the member organisations of the Midwest Cancer Alliance."

The 17,000ft² facility will accommodate a welcome area, ten dedicated exam rooms and one procedure room along with 16 chemotherapy infusion rooms equipped with recliners and individual TV/entertainment centres for patients.

Featuring an on-site pharmacy, the new centre will also offer patient navigator staff, education and a social worker, and a special boutique with consultations and private fittings for wigs and prosthetics for patients during advanced cancer treatment.

The Midwest Cancer Alliance benefits to be offered at the new Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Center at TMC include clinical trials, tele-oncology, outreach programmes and events, networking events and conferences, continuing professional education, and patient navigation.
