The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, a non-profit academic medical centre in Baltimore, Maryland, US, has chosen the 3M 360 Encompass System to integrate and automate coding, clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and performance monitoring in a single workflow.
The medical centre will leverage the 3M Health Information Systems technology to capture complete documentation, improve coding accuracy, speed up billing time, and report outcomes data that accurately reflects the care provided.
The technology is expected to tackle the issues related to multiple coding and documentation processes and the added costs of unconnected systems.
The 3M platform will improve case mix by promoting complete capture of patient severity in physician documentation, and will reduce the time and resources that physicians require to prepare for ICD-10.
With the 3M Coding and Reimbursement System as its base, the 3M 360 Encompass System incorporates complete ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding content.
The application codes in ICD-10 and facilitates coding in ICD-9 while viewing the ICD-10 equivalent.
3M Health Information Systems claims that the 3M 360 Encompass System will facilitate the merging of clinical and financial data to enable users to analyse, supplement and execute on vital clinical and financial data, improving patient outcomes and hospital reimbursement.
The automated coding and documentation improvement system is built on 3M logic for grouping and reimbursement and leverages NLP and 3M rules.
