Jordan Hospital in Massachusetts, US, has licensed Mediware Information Systems’ InSight Performance Management software to monitor enterprise-wide performance programmes.

The software will help Jordan to monitor its annual strategic plan and to track the progress of its lean-driven improvement initiatives programme, which was launched to help the hospital realise its performance goals.

The solution will also automate data gathering and enable departmental managers with dashboards to track operating performance.

Jordan Hospital CEO Peter Holden said the medical centre wants its managers to have performance dashboards to help them easily track their progress against the hospital’s defined goals.

"By using a technology like InSight, we are able to effectively create information out of the mounds of data in our core systems," Holden added.

"It also enables us to view our performance over time, understand the impact of changes we put in place, and manage our organisation based on the facts."

The first phase of the InSight rollout involves construction of an initial set of about 50 indicators targeting clinical programmes, while the hospital plans to expand quality indicators for key departments during the second phase.

"By using a technology like InSight, we are able to effectively create information out of the mounds of data in our core systems."

Jordan plans to continue expanding core department indicators as well as introduce indicators to track lean initiatives and strategic plan metrics in phase three.

Mediware Information Systems president and chief executive officer Thomas Mann said quality and efficiency are essential in today’s healthcare organisations.

"Readmission rates and other quality related issues will continue to drive payment and reimbursement restrictions for all types of providers," Mann added.

"By automating data collection, and utilising a standard management platform, hospitals such as Jordan have an efficient and easy to use technology they can rely on to get up to the minute results, track changes over time, and validate the effectiveness of new improvement initiatives."
