Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC), a 504-bed facility located in Kansas City, Missouri, has selected B.E. Smith to incorporate a customised approach to achieve its goal of providing best-in-class care management services to its patients.
The management consulting firm uses a methodology that focuses on collaboration among clinical teams to promote a balance between standardisation and innovation in order to meet the wide range of requirements in today’s healthcare continuum.
With a special focus on collaboration, standardisation and integration of clinical processes, the services offered by B.E. Smith’s management consulting practice are designed to enhance and streamline patient care delivery.
The team’s tailored and systematic approach will ensure an advantageous outcome for all parties involved, especially patients, who will have enhanced, patient-centered care.
Shawnee Mission Medical Center president and CEO Ken Bacon said that as a long-time, trusted partner, B. E. Smith’s management consulting division was a natural choice for the project.
"After observation, data analysis and overall assessment, the management consulting team helped further our goals and facilitated a plan to have the hospital adopt an innovative case management model to integrate the care coordination, discharge management and utilisation management functions in order for us to provide efficient, equitable, safe and high-quality care to our patients," Bacon added.
B. E. Smith management consulting senior vice president Kathleen Meredith said that SMMC was looking to create an integrated care management model that would ‘knit together’ all the pieces and parts already in place as well as enhance the current state with innovation and leading practices.
"Our team was honoured that Shawnee Mission Medical Center chose us to partner on this initiative. Our approach is tailored to meet the exact requirements of our clients’ unique circumstances to ensure sustainable, strategic transformation," Meredith added.
Shawnee Mission Medical Center employs more than 2,900 local residents and supports an exceptional staff of 700 physicians representing 50 medical specialities, with 20,000 inpatient admissions and more than 200,000 outpatient admissions annually.
