The University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) in the US has entered into an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) with Ameresco to install $4.5m of equipment at the facility.
Under the contract, Ameresco will install new lighting systems and controls, server room cooling systems, boilers, condenser pumps, variable frequency drives and air handler units.
The University Medical Center of Southern Nevada associate administrator Cindi Roehr said that the ESPC model allows the medical centre to make a variety of critically needed infrastructure improvements with guaranteed energy savings.
"The advantage of working with Ameresco is that they can perform multiple projects at one time. It would take years to do these projects individually and would cost a lot more in time and money," Roehr said.
It is expected that the infrastructure improvements will save the facility more than $200,000 in energy costs each year and increase the efficiency and lifespan of the equipment.
UMC is set to cut its carbon footprint by more than 600t of CO2 annually and reduce its operation and maintenance costs by more than $28,000 a year through the upgrades.
Ameresco vice president Robert Georgeoff added: "Currently, our teams are working closely with the hospital to coordinate installation without adversely affecting the patients or staff in the hospital. We look forward to delivering a successful project."
