Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), an Indian financial services centre, has initiated the process of establishing a new state-of-the-art hospital in Gujarat, India, as part of its social infrastructure project.

Hinduja Hospital, Sterling Hospital, Medanta, Columbia Asia and Faith Healthcare have expressed interest in setting up the 200-bed hospital.

The request for proposal (RFP) was issued in July 2013.

"We believe that for growth of any city, infrastructure development has to be a precursor and so we are focusing on it in the first phase."

The new hospital, which will be built according to international standards, will offer a full range of in-patient and out-patient services.

GIFT City managing director Ramakant Jha was quoted by Times of India as saying, "We want to ensure that people who move here get benefits of infrastructure and social facilities like school, hospital, club, hotel and entertainment zone from the first day itself. We believe that for growth of any city, infrastructure development has to be a precursor and so we are focusing on it in the first phase."

"Being a social facility, allotment of development rights for the hospital in GIFT City will be made at Rs 250 per square feet of BUA. GIFT City has earmarked a maximum of up to 50,000 square metre of Built up Area (BUA) for this hospital," Jha added.

GIFT City is expected to create 500,000 direct jobs and an equal number of indirect jobs once it is fully constructed.

The new hospital is expected to contribute to Gujarat’s healthcare sector, which is currently experiencing multi-fold growth.
