Sapheon has received the CE mark for its new approach of treating varicose veins using the Sapheon Closure System.

Sapheon’s technology uses a proprietary medical adhesive and single-use catheter-based delivery system to immediately and permanently achieve vein closure without thermal ablation or sclerosing chemicals.

Patients treated with the Sapheon Closure System avoid post-procedure pain and bruising, and can immediately resume normal activities.

The Sapheon Closure System will be available in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Sapheon plans to initiate a post-market study in November 2011.
