Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford plans $1.1bn expansion in US
Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in the US planned a $1.1bn expansion plan in order to boost its service capabilities.
The plan, which proposes a 521,000ft² expansion will nearly double the size of the current facility and add 149 patient beds.
The expansion and new main building will increase access to America’s most advanced and family friendly hospital for children and expectant mothers.
Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford said the plan also includes provision for a launching pad for expanding and renovating the current hospital next door.

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council granted approval for plans to build the £430m Midland Metropolitan Hospital on Grove Lane in Smethwick, West Midlands, England.
In August, a Carillion joint venture, the Hospital Company, was selected as the preferred bidder by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver the hospital.
The project will be delivered in a public private partnership (PPP) under a 30-year concession contract using the UK government’s PF2 model.
Universal Health Services to buy Foundations Recovery Network for $350m
Universal Health Services (UHS) has entered an agreement and received Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approval to buy Foundations Recovery Network (Foundations) for $350m.
The acquisition will add 322 residential beds in four facilities and eight outpatient centres. There are also more than 140 expansion beds in the pipeline.
Foundations Recovery Network is one of the leaders in addiction treatment. It is focused on treating adults with co-occurring addiction and mental health disorders through an evidence-based integrated treatment model in residential and outpatient settings.
Roche opens new training centre at Royal Liverpool University Hospital
Roche Diagnostics opened a new training laboratory and regional centre of excellence at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in the UK.
The facility will provide training for more than 1,000 hospital and laboratory staff a year from across the North West.
Part of Liverpool Clinical Laboratories, the centre was redeveloped following a grant from Roche Diagnostics, as part of its ongoing commitment to training and excellence in diagnostics.
Philips to equip Catharina Hospital’s new cardiovascular centre
Royal Philips signed an agreement with Catharina Hospital for the installation of its advanced medical technologies at the hospital’s new cardiovascular centre in the Netherlands.
The cardiovascular centre is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in mid-2016.
Under the technology partnership, the hospital will have access to the latest technologies for image-guided minimally invasive treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease.
Colorado’s DaVita to open new renal hospital chain in China
Colorado-based DaVita HealthCare Partners’ dialysis division entered a joint venture (JV) agreement with Xiaoyi Zhang, president of Shunjing Renal Hospital to establish a kidney care speciality hospital chain in the Shandong province of China.
The agreement establishes DaVita (Shandong) Kidney Disease Hospital as a first-of-its-kind renal dialysis JV between a multinational healthcare provider and the private sector in China.
Shunjing Renal Hospital is the only facility in Shandong province’s capital of Jinan that is approved for dialysis services.
Bouygues UK to build UCLH’s new cancer treatment and surgery centre
Bouygues UK was awarded a €257m contract to design and build University College London Hospitals’ (UCLH) new advanced cancer treatment and surgery hospital in central London.
The new hospital is designed by architects Scott Tallon Walker in association with Edward Williams Architects.
The treatment centre will form part of a new national high energy proton beam therapy and will feature a facility underground with five additional floors above offering care and treatment of blood cancer and short stay surgery.
Boston Children’s Hospital implements QuestLink to administer ICHOM standard sets
Boston Children’s Hospital selected VitalHealth Software’s QuestLink for the implementation of the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) standard set for cleft lip and palate.
VitalHealth provides web-based solutions for collaborative health management established by Mayo Clinic and the Noaber Foundation.
ICHOM has certified QuestLink to support the efficient gathering of the patient reported outcomes (PROs) included in its standard sets.
