The public safety team at the hospital will use the Evolv device, to enhance security and maintain safety in the community.

Lee Health is said to be the first hospital system in the region to deploy the screening solution.
This touchless device has the potential to detect dangerous weapons.
It can rapidly differentiate between a gun and a smartphone, leveraging various sensors, screens and cameras along with a software architecture powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
Initially, Evolv will be deployed at the entrance of the hospital’s emergency department and gradually at Lee Health’s other emergency unit access points.

The device is claimed to have the potential to monitor up to 3,600 individuals in an hour. This speed is ten times higher compared to metal detectors.
Evolv can also instantly alert the security teams on detecting any threat.
Lee Health Hospital Operations and Women and Children’s Services chief officer Armando Llechu said: “We take the safety of staff, patients and visitors seriously and are committed to keeping our community safe.
“We have to be prepared for anything. This is the most advanced weapons detection system available and it is going to deter violence and possibly save lives.”
