The Switzerland-based, newly established foundation will collaborate with key decision-makers to shape healthcare policies to benefit these patients.
MHIF is set to become part of the Mended Hearts International Network (MHIN), which encompasses the MHI, Mended Hearts Europe (MHE), and Mended Hearts University (MHU).
The expansion anticipates the inclusion of additional nonprofits, such as Mended Little Hearts and Mended Hearts Asia.
The foundation’s four core mandates include supporting patients and families through community and connections, empowering them with education and resources, developing educational research projects with patient input, and preserving the network’s values and ethics.

By GlobalDataThis approach is designed to address the needs of the 523 million individuals affected by cardiovascular diseases, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Mended Hearts International Foundation founder Al Voss said: “The MHIF believes in a world where every patient with cardiovascular disease is empowered with the resources and support needed to make better decisions about their healthcare and live a healthy life.
“Through our networked organisations, we will inspire hope and improve the quality of life of patients, their families and their caregivers through ongoing support, education and advocacy.”
MHIF will engage in advocacy by monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, promoting ethical and legal reforms, supporting alternative funding programmes, and educating patient communities on healthcare policies.
Its governance will involve a board of directors, with a minimum of three members, auditors, the Mended Hearts International Advisory Committee, and other bodies as designated by the board.
The advisory committee will consist of two representatives from each MHIN entity, a staff member as secretary, and all board members of MHIF.
