Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has announced the upcoming opening of the new A$110.2m ($73m) Cowra Hospital, which will deliver upgraded services and advanced facilities for Cowra and neighbouring communities.
The project is reaching completion, with final preparations underway after a recent Community Open Day that saw nearly 600 attendees tour the hospital.

A comprehensive relocation plan has been established to ensure a seamless transition for staff and health services into the new building, aiming to reduce disruption for the community.
All current health services on the campus will be relocated to the new facility, with inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services, including oncology, maternity, and surgical, scheduled to start on 9 December.
Several new or expanded services, such as new ultrasound offerings, a larger dental clinic, and the hospital’s first computed tomography (CT) scanner, will be available in January as part of a phased opening.
Community access to all services, including community health, will be provided via the new emergency department entrance off Brisbane Street once the hospital opens.

NSW health minister Ryan Park said: “The A$110.2m Cowra Hospital will provide new and enhanced health services from modern, purpose-built facilities, and will significantly improve the care and better support staff, patients and their families now and into the future.
“From the new emergency department, maternity unit and pathology laboratory to the expanded inpatient wards and medical imaging department, the improved technology in place at the hospital will make a massive difference to the experiences of staff, patients and their families.
“Opening this new Cowra Hospital marks an important milestone, giving the people of Cowra and the surrounding regions the hospital they need and deserve.”
Temporary signage will direct the community to the new emergency department entrance during the transition.
In February 2024, the NSW government began construction work on the Cowra Hospital redevelopment project by turning the first sod on the hospital site.
