The new designs encompass the planned department locations at the hospital within the new multi-storey building.

The clinical services building will be positioned at the front of the current hospital, designed to integrate with existing services.

Enhancements to the existing hospital will feature upgrades to the main entry, drop-off areas, a new main foyer, and reception to improve access.

The redevelopment will also add a multi-storey car park and expanded ground-level parking to increase the number of spaces on campus and facilitate health service access.

The clinical services building will house an intensive care unit, medical imaging, expanded emergency department, inpatient wards, and operating theatres. Several departments will be relocated or refurbished.

Planning continues with the final design to be confirmed as work progresses. Early works planning is now open for public comment, preparing the site for construction to start next year, pending approval.

The NSW government has pledged A$550m toward the project, complemented by A$80m contribution from the Commonwealth government to expand the emergency department.

This redevelopment is part of a wider A$1.3bn investment in Western Sydney’s health infrastructure in the 2025–2026 Budget.

Health Infrastructure and South Western Sydney Local Health District are partnering on the project.

NSW premier Chris Minns said: “This redevelopment is part of our commitment to finally give Western Sydney the hospitals, the services and the investment it was promised for more than a decade but never received.

“When it’s complete families in Fairfield will have a modern Emergency Department, more beds, better care and world-class facilities close to home.”

Recently, the NSW government announced the completion of the A$110.2m Cowra Hospital Redevelopment, marking a key step forward in enhancing healthcare services for Cowra and its neighbouring areas.
