Nuance Communications, a Microsoft subsidiary, has launched the Nuance Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX Copilot), integrated with the MEDITECH Expanse electronic health record (EHR) system, to enhance clinical documentation.

This integration aims to improve healthcare experiences and expand access to care by executing the automation of clinical documentation during examinations of patients.

The latest development leverages the established strategic partnership between Nuance and MEDITECH, and builds on the previous integration of Nuance Dragon Medical One and MEDITECH solutions.

The DAX Copilot integrated into MEDITECH Expanse offers conversational and generative AI to create clinical notes on a real-time basis during both in-person and telehealth consultations.

DAX Copilot is designed to alleviate the time and cognitive load associated with clinical documentation, which are contributing factors to clinician burnout.

By reducing these burdens, the solution enables doctors to concentrate on providing tailored care to a greater number of patients daily.

The introduction of DAX Copilot in more than 200 organisations is aiding in the mitigation of clinician burnout and the enhancement of patient care.

The solution also offers healthcare institutions the ability to implement a new generation of AI-powered clinical documentation applications on a large scale.

DAX Copilot features Dragon Medical One for cloud-based speech recognition that functions as both a workflow assistant and documentation companion within the EHR.

Microsoft Global Health and Life Sciences CVP Robert Dahdah said: “DAX Copilot is well-aligned with MEDITECH’s strategy to accelerate innovation and fundamentally improve physician and patient experiences, clinical efficiency, and healthcare costs and outcomes.

“It also enhances MEDITECH customer investments in Dragon Medical solutions with state-of-the-art generative AI capabilities for clinical documentation automation backed by the extensive resources of Nuance and Microsoft.”
