The cancer centre’s first phase will open on 5 December and offer treatment capabilities, as well as feature advanced diagnostic facilities such as a PET-CT and radiotherapy centre.

Upon completion, the project will feature a nuclear medicine facility that will house Malaysia’s inaugural cyclotron located outside the Klang Valley and facilitate the local production of radioisotopes for cancer imaging and treatment.

This project is anticipated to enhance early cancer detection and decrease reliance on remote radioisotope supply chains.

It is expected to create approximately 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, supporting workforce development in line with the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone’s aim to drive high-value healthcare services.

Following the centre’s launch, Precious Medical Group will develop a 200-bed hospital on the same location to provide inpatient oncology and integrated support services.

Situated at Larkin Sentral, a key transport hub within the economic zone, the project’s location facilitates cross-border medical cooperation, talent mobility, and knowledge exchange, according to Precious Medical Group.

The company added that Malaysia’s healthcare system, which receives over 1.5 million medical tourists annually, is expected to benefit from the enhanced capacity.

The hospital is named in memory of late Tunku Abdul Jalil, the fourth child of Sultan Ibrahim of Johor and Raja Zarith Sofiah. Tunku Abdul Jalil passed away at the age of 25 after a battle with liver cancer.

Precious Medical Group founder and managing director Dr William Chong said: “This hospital is a tribute to the memory of Tunku Abdul Jalil, whose courage, strength, and resilience in the face of adversity remain an inspiration to all. Tunku Jalil’s modest, kind, and compassionate nature embodies the philosophy of this hospital — the spirit of caring and sharing.”
