This strategic move follows a pilot assessment involving 100 clinicians, which led to the selection of Abridge as the solution for ambient AI-powered documentation.

UNC Physicians Network chief medical officer Dr Sachin Gupta said: “Abridge is a genuinely transformative technology, and it’s going to be the foundation of what we do going forward.

“UNC Health is committed to making our clinicians’ lives easier and to improving the patient and clinician experience. This is a big win for us in those areas. Clinicians and patients who prefer not to use it can opt out, and we chose Abridge in part for its strong policies in protecting patient safety and privacy.”

The implementation of Abridge technology is set to begin in early February for physicians and advanced practice providers across North Carolina.

UNC Health chief clinical officer Dr Matt Ewend said: “Our goal is to improve the satisfaction of our clinicians by reducing the time spent on clinical note-taking while maintaining UNC Health’s high quality of patient-centered care.

“As one pilot user noted: ‘It’s been a game changer. I can complete my work while I’m at work and not have to work from home.”

The approach of the technology transforms conversations between patients and clinicians into structured clinical notes, allowing clinicians to concentrate on patient care.

Its speech recognition technology automatically adapts to the care setting, specialty, and language, producing clinical documentation in real time.

By mapping clinical notes to the actual conversation, Abridge helps clinicians quickly trust and verify the output.

Abridge, with deep integrations into electronic health records, streamlines workflows.
