Duke Health has completed the acquisition of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center and associated businesses in Mooresville, North Carolina, US, from Community Health Systems.

Signed in December 2024, the $284m transaction included the 123-bed site that has now been renamed Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, which offers services such as including 24-hour emergency care, labour and delivery, cardiology, surgical and orthopaedic care, and an outpatient imaging centre.

Duke University Health System (DUHS) CEO Craig Albanese said: “This is an exciting day for Duke Health and the Lake Norman team.

“We have a bright future ahead and look forward to bringing the excellence and innovation of Duke Health to enhance the care offered at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital and clinics.”

The hospital is set to undergo electronic medical records integration over the coming months, which will enable patients to access the full spectrum of Duke Health's speciality care.

Albanese said: “Duke Health leadership brings decades of experience in every aspect of healthcare.

“From clinical quality and safety to operational excellence and strategic planning, we have a legacy of delivering the best care to the communities we serve. We look forward to building a new foundation of excellence in Lake Norman."

Duke Health integrates the Duke University School of Medicine, Duke-NUS Medical School, Duke University School of Nursing, Duke University Health System, and its physician practice, Duke Health Integrated Practice.

It also incorporates the health and health research programmes within the Duke Global Health Institute, as well as those in schools and centres across Duke University, including the Duke Robert J Margolis Institute for Health Policy.

With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Community Health Systems operates a network of healthcare services across 14 states.

The company's subsidiaries manage 72 hospitals with over 10,000 beds and more than 1,000 care sites, including urgent care centres and ambulatory surgery centres.
