The Government of Grenada has entered a strategic agreement with US-based academic medical centre Mount Sinai Health System to enhance healthcare services in the country.

The long-term partnership will focus on the planned Hope Vale hospital, which is intended to provide improved medical care for residents of Grenada and the Eastern Caribbean.

As part of the collaboration, Mount Sinai will advise on the hospital's design, development and eventual clinical operations.

The hospital is being developed under Project Polaris, the government's initiative to create a climate-smart medical city covering 84 acres in Hope Vale.

Grenada's partnership with Mount Sinai was formalised at a signing ceremony attended by Health Minister Philip Telesford and Mental Wellness Minister Delma Thomas, alongside Mount Sinai International president Dr Szabi Dorotovics and executive director Jonathan Wetzel.

Grenada's Health Minister Philip Telesford said: “This partnership with Mount Sinai represents more than the construction of a new hospital.

“It symbolises our deep commitment to providing world-class healthcare for every citizen, and it is a critical step towards realising our vision of becoming the medical capital of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).”

In addition to the Hope Vale hospital, the team at Mount Sinai has started working with Grenada General Hospital to improve its operations, human resources, and quality and safety systems.

Dr Dorotovics said: “We are honoured to be chosen by the Government of Grenada as its strategic partner in the long-term development of the country’s healthcare system.

“We are committed to collaborating with Grenada to enhance access to advanced, high-quality healthcare for all Grenadians.

“Our team will continue to work in lockstep with our Grenadian colleagues to achieve the vision of the new smart hospital for Grenada.”

In December 2024, Greater New York Anesthesia Services (GNYAS) announced that it would receive business services from a new entity formed jointly by Mount Sinai and US Anesthesia Partners (USAP).
