Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has inaugurated a multidisciplinary spine centre in Paramus, New Jersey, US, enhancing access to specialised back and neck care for the local community.

The new centre mirrors the care provided by the flagship hospital of the organisation in New York City.

The Paramus spine facility is part of HSS's expansion in Northern New Jersey, joining two recently opened facilities, namely HSS Paramus – Midland Ave and the HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center in Mahwah.

These facilities collectively offer residents of Bergen County a wide spectrum of surgical and non-surgical treatments in various medical specialities.

HSS president and CEO Bryan T Kelly said: “HSS has long set the standard for excellence and innovation in spinal care.

“Together with the HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center and HSS Paramus – Midland Avenue, the Spine Center reflects our commitment to making high-quality care accessible to local communities as well as the growing need for spine services in New Jersey.”

Central to the spine centre's philosophy is an integrated approach to spinal health, with a team of specialists in spine surgery, pain management, neurology, physiatry, and radiology collaborating to deliver personalised and continuous care.

HSS Spine Center Paramus sports medicine surgeon and medical director Anil  Ranawat said: “Each of our physicians specialises in treating people with conditions and injuries affecting the spine.

“This high degree of expertise and collaboration ensures that each patient receives an individualised treatment plan tailored to their specific needs, supporting optimal outcomes and continuity of care.”

HSS Spine's spine surgeon and co-chief Sheeraz Qureshi said: “At HSS, conservative treatment is always the first line of care, while surgery is the last resort.

“A variety of therapies are available to address pain, prevent further damage and help patients regain mobility without the need for surgery.

“However, if it is needed, HSS spine surgeons are at the forefront of robotic-assisted and minimally invasive procedures that are beneficial for patients.”

Surgical procedures are conducted either at the HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center in Mahwah or at the main hospital in Manhattan.
