The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has entered into a partnership with LSU Health New Orleans, US, to enhance global health through initiatives in research, education, and technology-led entrepreneurship programmes.

The agreement merges LSU Health New Orleans’ clinical and translational research capabilities with IIT Madras’ innovation ecosystem to accelerate scalable solutions.

The collaboration is aimed at supporting the development of new technologies to address gaps in healthcare and improve global outcomes.

LSU Health New Orleans chancellor Dr Steve Nelson said: “This collaboration supports our commitment to pursuing National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation for the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center.

“By combining our clinical expertise with IIT Madras’ technology innovations, we are building a powerful mechanism to move discoveries from bench to bedside and improve health outcomes in Louisiana and worldwide.”

Joint teams will undertake genomic and health studies and develop AI-powered applications, smart medical devices, and affordable diagnostics.

In addition, an exchange programme will provide support for faculty and student collaboration, enabling research and entrepreneurship to extend the partnership’s reach across priority areas in applied health.

IIT Madras said it hosts a deep-tech ecosystem anchored by a research park with more than 200 startups and over 1.2 million square feet of innovation space.

IIT Madras director V Kamakoti said: “Bringing our technology-driven innovation together with LSU Health New Orleans’ research and clinical presence in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast establishes a pathway for translating ideas into global health solutions.”

The partners aim to advance applied health research and position LSU Health New Orleans among the top 50 academic health centres by 2030.
