Klinikum Siloah to improve patient safety with Siemens’ ICS implementation

The system aims to refine work processes and enhance data analysis, thereby improving hospital transparency.

Klinikum Region Hannover (KRH) in Germany is set to enhance patient and employee safety at the Klinikum Siloah hospital with the installation of Siemens Healthineers’ infection control system (ICS).

This initiative is set to address nosocomial infections.

Able to accommodate over 24,000 inpatients a year, KRH Klinikum Siloah has 564 beds and 12 specialist departments.

The ICS is designed to identify potential pathogen sources, record data, and initiate automated measures to mitigate infection risks.

This flagship project at the hospital could lead to further implementation across additional KRH sites, contingent upon the success of this initial phase.

Siemens Healthineers has developed the ICS in close partnership with KRH experts through a longstanding collaborative relationship.

Klinikum Siloah’s infection control team (ICT) is integral to the ICS, overseeing the monitoring of infections and the execution of necessary measures.

The system also aims to refine work processes and enhance data analysis, thereby improving hospital transparency, quality, and safety.

The cloud-based ICS complies with stringent data protection regulations and facilitates rapid identification of infection sources. It also helps to lessen staff absences and streamlines effective contact tracing.

An intelligent navigation feature assists employees, patients, and visitors in avoiding hazardous zones and directs them to essential points within the hospital.

Incorporating RealTime Location Solution (RTLS) architecture, the ICS uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.0 and RFID technology for precise location tracking and contact documentation.

The implementation of this system requires installation, a structured implementation phase, and change management.

Siemens Healthineers is set to provide support to KRH Klinikum Siloah throughout the consulting, project planning, and implementation stages.

In October 2023, Siemens Healthineers began a nine-year partnership with PRIME Healthcare UAE to enhance patient services at its flagship hospital and Premier Diagnostic Centre in the UAE.
