La Paz Regional Hospital in the US has implemented MEDITECH Expanse, a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) system to improve care.

Delivered through MEDITECH as a Service (MaaS), the system will help to enhance the health and well-being of its community through more connected care.

The implementation marks a major milestone, consolidating various legacy systems into a unified, intelligent platform.

The hospital, along with its four clinics spread over a 60-mile radius, now benefits from centralised patient information, reduced test duplication, improved chart reviews, and a foundation for scalable growth.

La Paz Regional Hospital CEO Zafer Genc said: “We wanted a unified system for our EHR and determined that MEDITECH was the one that fit throughout each area of the hospital and connected our hospital and clinics to improve the quality of care that we provide to our community.”

With the unified EHR system, La Paz clinicians benefit from a comprehensive view of each patient's medical history across the entire health system.

The interoperability of Expanse allows them to access information from other organisations, which helps clinicians to make informed decisions, especially for those with chronic conditions or complex care needs.

Using tools such as Expanse Now and Expanse point of care, the system can be accessed while mobile, allowing caregivers to access records, place orders, and document care on the go.

This not only improves the patient experience but also alleviates the administrative load, combating clinician burnout.

The EHR streamlines workflows from patient access to billing and ensures that vital information is readily available.

In addition, the integrated Business and Clinical Analytics solution also provides a web-based business intelligence platform with a comprehensive view of clinical, financial, and operational data.

Patients are also benefitting from new engagement tools, including the MyHealth portal and MHealth app, which facilitate access to health information, communication with care teams, and appointment management.

Secure messaging and text reminders through Expanse Patient Connect improve communication and patient engagement throughout their care journey.

Last month, Willis Knighton Health announced the implementation of the MEDITECH Expanse EHR system across its 132 clinics.
