Mercyhealth, a multi-regional health system in the US, has 'transformed' its revenue cycle operations with Arintra's AI-driven autonomous coding platform.

Confronted with growing revenue recognition challenges, Mercyhealth deployed the solution to enhance coding accuracy, streamline efficiency, and manage its increasing patient volume.

Arintra’s autonomous medical coding platform is aimed at accelerating and optimising reimbursements for healthcare organisations.  

Set up in 1883, Mercyhealth is a $5bn healthcare system with seven hospitals and 85 care locations, catering to more than 55 communities across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

Following the implementation of the autonomous coding platform, Mercyhealth has seen a 5.1% revenue uplift and a 50% reduction in work queue ageing days.

The AI-powered solution has enabled an 88% direct-to-billing automation rate, streamlining the coding process and reducing the administrative burden on staff.

Mercyhealth Revenue Cycle vice-president Kimberly Scaccia said: “Before, we were touching about 30% of claims from a coding perspective. Arintra allows us to ensure revenue accuracy based on documentation and be compliant while freeing up coders to focus on highly complex services and value-added initiatives."

With over 130,000 claims processed monthly, Mercyhealth faced coder burnout and backlogs, exacerbated by evolving Medicaid policies and compliance requirements.

The integration of Arintra's platform, which utilises generative AI, with Mercyhealth's Epic electronic health record (EHR) system has optimised workflows and provided a seamless experience for coders.
