MUHC to launch Lumenix’s AIMS platform for patient safety

The collaboration involves launching AIMS at MUHC and developing additional applications tailored to specific clinical needs.

McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) has entered a multi-year collaboration to implement Lumenix’s Artificially Intelligent Monitoring System (AIMS) platform technology, designed to enhance patient and staff safety.

The technology uses anonymised sensor data to help clinical teams proactively address risks, such as missed hand hygiene, patient falls, and wandering, to improve outcomes and support care delivery.

AIMS functions through devices embedded in ceilings and infrared 3D sensors that observe human behaviour and positioning, without gathering personal data. The platform delivers real-time, actionable insights, allowing hospitals to avert adverse events.

This is in line with the objectives of MUHC’s Initiatives and Methods for Partnerships, Analytics and Clinical Transformation (IMPACT) centre, which aims to promote the advantages of digital health technologies by incorporating innovative tools that enhance care across all life stages.

MUHC president and executive director Dr Lucie Opatrny said: “Protecting patients from preventable harm is at the heart of our mission.

“By introducing this technology, we are equipping our teams with another tool to reinforce best practices and deliver the safest care possible. This project also highlights how academic health centres can combine clinical expertise with technological innovation to drive meaningful transformation across our sector.”

The collaboration includes the launch of AIMS at MUHC, as well as the development of additional applications tailored to clinical needs.

These solutions are intended to provide immediate value for clinical staff and patient care while creating scalable models for broader healthcare systems.

Lumenix chairman and CEO Scott Delaney said: “Our partnership with the MUHC represents exactly the kind of collaboration that drives meaningful, inclusive healthcare innovation.

“The MUHC’s unwavering commitment to excellence, leadership, and innovation makes them an ideal partner as we continue to develop and expand the AIMS platform’s capabilities.”
