North Walton Doctors Hospital in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, US, has secured a $12.5m New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) funding through UB Community Development (UBCD) for its rehabilitation.

This move aims to enhance healthcare services in Walton County's growing northern region.

The 80,000ft² North Walton Doctors Hospital campus is strategically located to serve the rural community with healthcare facilities. It is equipped with an emergency department, full-service operating rooms, departments for radiology services and a laboratory.

The facility is poised to handle a variety of medical needs, from injuries to surgeries such as spinal and orthopaedic procedures, including total knee replacements and sports surgeries.

It will also offer services in gastrointestinal, bariatric and plastic surgery.

UB Community Development president Alex Jones said: "Assisting North Walton Doctors Hospital in serving the City of DeFuniak Springs and the entire north end of Walton County is why UBCD was established.

“We truly appreciate the confidence that the North Walton team placed in UBCD during the closing of this transaction.”

The NMTC financing is expected to enhance the quality of healthcare services available to Walton County residents by facilitating the reopening of the hospital.

This project has generated 88 full-time jobs and will also offer care to up to 12,000 patients each year.

The hospital's healthcare professionals focus on delivering emergency and surgical care.

Headquartered in the US, UBCD stands as a financial partner in economic and community development.

Through its involvement in NMTC projects, the Community Facilities Lending Programme, and the Community Housing Capital Fund, UBCD collaborates with various partners to advance healthcare, manufacturing, education, public works and affordable housing sectors.
