OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital has marked a step forward in its $17.2m renovation project, with the opening of two operating rooms developed recently.

These facilities form a component of the first phase of a comprehensive upgrade to the hospital's surgical services.

The renovation is advancing in multiple phases, with the primary goal of improving safety, optimising workflow, and accommodating advanced surgical procedures.

Phase 1 encompasses the completion of two out of three operating rooms that are planned, and modernised support spaces that facilitate better preparation and care delivery by surgical teams.

O’Bleness Hospital surgery manager Ressa Hutchison said: “These are modern, thoughtfully designed spaces that reflect how far we’ve come in our surgical care.

“Our teams have more space to move, advanced technology to support them and a more comfortable, efficient environment to care for patients.”

Each new operating suite is equipped with Steris surgical LED lighting, featuring shadow-reducing sensors, and an integrated Steris CleanSuite airflow system to ensure a sterile environment.

Remotely controllable surgical room systems, encompassing lighting and airflow, provide staff with increased flexibility and contribute to an enhanced workflow.

Hutchison added: “This kind of remote functionality allows us to focus more on the patient and less on managing the room. It’s a big step forward for efficiency and safety.”

This hospital is also offering amenities including blanket warmers in each room.

The subsequent phases of the renovation will see the establishment of a third operating room and a suite for endoscopy.

With over 3,000 surgeries performed annually at the hospital, the new facilities are expected to support further growth.

The renovation is expected to be fully completed by early 2026.
