Sutter Health has announced plans for the Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Care Complex in downtown Sacramento, California, US.

This 120,000ft2 facility, set to open in late 2027, aims to meet the increasing requirements for specialised orthopaedic medicine in the region.

Sutter Health president and CEO Warner Thomas said: “This investment is another step forward in our pursuit to differentiate our highly specialised centres of excellence and comes on the heels of announcing a new cancer centre in Modesto and a neurosciences centre in San Francisco last year with more to come.”

The complex, situated at 660 J Street, will offer a range of services including spine care, advanced spine surgery options like minimally invasive spinal fusion, correction of spinal deformity, disc replacement, and joint replacement surgery.

In addition to orthopaedic services, the facility will provide sports medicine and concussion clinics designed to give patients access to care immediately, thereby minimising referral wait times.

The complex will also feature physical therapy, an ambulatory surgery centre, and diagnostic imaging services such as X-rays and MRIs to aid in injury diagnosis and assessment.

Additional support services will include sports psychology and nutrition support.

Looking ahead, Sutter Health plans to expand the treatment options available at the complex.

The organisation's graduate medical education programmes are also expected to establish a presence there.

Sutter Health Greater Sacramento division president Rachael McKinney said: “We are opening multiple new care centres, urgent care sites and ambulatory surgery centres across the greater Sacramento area over the next few years, including key projects in Elk Grove, Folsom and Roseville, so patients can access leading-edge care no matter where they are in the region.

“This is part of our bold vision to serve more than one million patients across the area by 2030.”

Earlier this year, Sutter Health entered into a seven-year Care Alliance with GE HealthCare, with the objective of expanding access to diagnostic imaging services across California.
