US hospital systems to adopt Altera’s cloud-native EHR platform

Paragon Denali will provide the necessary flexibility for healthcare organisations.

Four hospital systems in the US are set to implement Altera Digital Health’s cloud-native electronic health record (EHR) system, Paragon Denali.

The platform is designed to support rural, critical access, and community hospitals.

Paragon Denali is built in the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and uses containerised services and a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model to provide the necessary flexibility for healthcare organisations.

It will be implemented by the 50-bed Columbus Community Hospital in Nebraska, the four-facility Pipeline Health System in California, the Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital in South Dakota, and the 107-bed West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Louisiana.

Columbus Community Hospital IT director Stacy Westfall said: “Paragon has served as our main EHR foundation for many years. We have recently seen a lot of growth and improvement with Altera and are excited to strengthen our partnership with them as we transition to Paragon Denali.

“We eagerly anticipate the positive impact this next step will have on the care we provide to our patients and to all those who love them.”

The deployment of Paragon Denali is expected to enable more 'efficient' system upgrades and enhancements, reduce downtime, and offer scalability to meet the changing needs of healthcare organisations.

The EHR platform integrates financial, clinical, revenue cycle, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) data in real time.

This is particularly beneficial for organisations with limited resources, as it assists clinical decision-makers, and reduces data redundancies, costs, and IT complexities.

Altera Digital Health Paragon executive vice-president Mark Bruno said: “Hospitals are facing several competing challenges, such as provider burnout, financial instability, and cyber threats while simultaneously aiming to improve interoperability and harness AI.

“Our investment in the cloud will not only enable hospitals to evolve amid external pressures, but to also innovate into the future.”
