The $4m, 9,000ft2 facility includes two operating rooms with surgery and arthroscopic equipment, an eight-bed ward for patient preparation before and after procedures, and anaesthesia rooms.
The centre is expected to handle up to 2,500 cases each year. It will be staffed by 15 employees, including four registered nurses, two practical nurses, two surgical technicians.
Hughston Clinic vice-president Kurt Jacobson said the centre will relieve some of the pressure on the hospitals in the region.
"The advantage of a surgery centre is that you can really provide the patients a much tighter schedule in terms of when you’re going to do things," said Jacobson.
