Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations, with a share of 31%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the healthcare industry in Q4 2023, with new job postings drop by 34% quarter-on-quarter. Healthcare Support Occupations came in second with a share of 15% in Q4 2023, with new job postings dropping by 27% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Life, Physical, and Social Science Occupations with a 10% share in Q4 2023, Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance Occupations with a 9% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in healthcare industry accounted for 23% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q4 2023 were Houston Methodist Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, New England Baptist Hospital, Advocate Aurora Health, and Atrium Health. Together they accounted for a combined share of 23% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the healthcare industry.

Houston Methodist Hospital posted 1,457 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q4 2023, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center 417 jobs, New England Baptist Hospital 414 jobs, Advocate Aurora Health 402 jobs, and Atrium Health 397 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 94.43% share of total new job postings, Q4 2023

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the healthcare industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 94.43% followed by Canada (3.78%) and the UK (0.78%). The share represented by the US was 0 percentage points lower than the 94.64% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
