Luxembourg-based General Mediterranean Holding (GMH) Group is developing a new Iraqi-German Ibn Hayyan Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq.

Expected to open later in 2015, the project was announced in January 2013.

To be built to meet European and worldwide standards, the new facility will offer advanced medical facilities for residents in the region.

Situated close to the banks of River Tigris, the facility will feature 58,700m² of space that will include 360 beds and several clinics.

It will also include a serviced apartment block and staff building, with plans in place to develop a university college within the grounds.

Mebex Consultants, a healthcare planning, architectural and engineering services consultancy, designed and is supervising the project.

Mebex provides electro-mechanical and structural engineering design support, as well as project management services. It is involved in the implementation of several major healthcare projects in countries, including Iraq, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

ATK Construction, which undertakes superstructure and infrastructure projects, is the lead construction company of the project.

The new Baghdad hospital is named after a renowned scholar Abu Musa Jabir Ibn Hayyan, who is a chemist, alchemist, astronomer, astrologer, engineer, geographer, philosopher, physicist, pharmacist and physician.

GMH carries out activities ranging from construction, real estate, banking, finance, hotel, leisure, broadcasting, communications, IT, pharmaceuticals and aviation.
