US-based Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital has opened a new $42m hospital building, which makes it the fifth largest rehabilitation hospital in the country.
Located in Grand Rapids of Michigan, the new building is the first phase of a $66.4m expansion and renovation project, which covers all areas of the Mary Free Bed campus.
The new hospital comprises 167 inpatient beds, including 119 acute care and 48 sub-acute care beds.
The new hospital features private rooms for all patients and additional advanced rehabilitation technology.
In addition, the hospital features social areas and other amenities, which are said to inspire patients and promote healing.
Mary Free Bed hospital Dr Dan Fechtner was quoted by woodtv.com as saying: "Rehabilitation is a specialty service and its a specialty hospital.
"There are not many rehabilitation hospitals in the country and for Grand Rapids to have the fifth largest is really going to be wonderful for the community."
Mary Free Bed is also launching rehabilitation programmes for debilitated patients and those with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and cardiac or pulmonary conditions.
The not-for-profit and acute-care rehabilitation hospital provides 80 acute-care inpatient beds, extensive outpatient programmes and home-based services.
