Saratoga Hospital in the US state of New York has selected DigitalPersona® Pro software and U.are.U® fingerprint readers to securely control access to patient health information (PHI) and comply with industry regulations.
Using the DigitalPersona solution hospital staff can access applications and see the patient records that they are authorised to view from any terminal across Saratoga Hospital’s facilities.
The combined use of the DigitalPersona Pro software with fingerprint biometrics will enable the hospital to meet the authentication requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.
DigitalPersona Pro software and U.are.U fingerprint readers can integrate into the hospital’s existing infrastructure and the solution will enable a range of authentication methods, including passwords, PINs, biometrics, proximity cards and Bluetooth phones.
The DigitalPersona Pro, along with fingerprint biometrics, will simplify the reporting and auditing requirements for regulations by connecting an individual person to each transaction.
Saratoga Hospital information systems security analyst Gary Moon said, "With DigitalPersona Pro, we have simplified the login process for our users, while simultaneously increasing the security of patient health information."
"This ultimately allows our personnel to deliver a better patient experience at the point of care and ensures we maintain patients’ trust by safeguarding their health information," Moon added.
Saratoga Hospital operates five remote care facilities with 171 hospital beds in Saratoga Springs, New York.
