US-based St. John’s Hospital has equipped its 16 operating rooms (ORs) with integrated digital surgical suites (IDSS) designed by Black Diamond Video (BDV).
The IDSS will help the hospital improve its operative visualisation and collaboration with high definition (HD) surgical video routing, HD image capture and recording, room-to-room HD video conferencing, live HD streaming, among others.
The hospital’s ORs now feature the BDV Clarity package, which includes a suite of tools designed to further enhance patient care and procedural efficiency. The package comprises Nurse Core View, Physician Remote and Media Repository.
With Nurse Core View and Physician Remote View, St. John’s Hospital will be able to monitor its patients and obtain their live status through the HL7 messaging system linked with BDV’s integrated OR system.
The BDV Clarity Media Repository application will help the hospital’s clinicians archive and securely review surgical images and recordings after their procedures.
St. John’s Hospital Orthopedic Surgery manager Charish Gibson said: "We are excited about getting to know the different ways that BDV will assist us from an improved patient care and improved efficiency perspective."
Gibson added: "From an immediate cost savings perspective, we are looking for the Media Repository to make an immediate impact by significantly reducing our printer ink and photo paper costs.
"Those costs are currently eye-opening. This would be friendlier to the environment as well."
Black Diamond Video founder and CEO Edward Priest said: "Surgical staff will be able to view surgical video in high definition on large displays within the OR, and stream or conference this video to remote destinations for instant consultation or teaching.
"We’re pleased to be able to assist St. John’s Hospital as they continue to find ways to enhance patient treatment and experience."
