Singapore-based Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital has installed Varian Medical Systems’ TrueBeam STx system to treat cancer.
Located in Novena, Parkway Pantai Group’s hospital will use the system for radiotherapy and radiosurgery to treat cancer patients.
Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital consultant radiation oncologist Dr Lee Kuo Ann said: "The TrueBeam system will enable us to deliver large doses to tumours with great precision.
"We’ll be able to treat many inoperable brain tumours, tumours that are close to the spinal cord, and tumours of the lung, liver, or pancreas, which are subject to respiratory motion during treatment."
Varian developed the system to advance treatment of lung, breast, intracranial, prostate, head and neck, and other types of cancer.
The system integrates multiple technical innovations, which dynamically synchronise advanced imaging, patient positioning, motion management, and treatment delivery during a radiotherapy or radiosurgery procedure to target tumours precisely.
