NextGen Healthcare has released its new artificial intelligence (AI)-driven ambient listening solution, NextGen Ambient Assist, specifically designed for the psychiatry and behavioural health (BH) sectors.
The new technology, now available for psychiatrists and other BH prescribers, aims to streamline the documentation processes by transcribing patient-provider conversations in real-time.
It helps in summarising patient encounters within 60 seconds post-appointment and is claimed to save medical professionals up to two hours of documentation time daily.
The launch of NextGen Ambient Assist is customised for psychiatric workflows, capable of recognising and processing specific aspects of mental and BH related discussions.
Accessible through the NextGen Mobile application on the provider’s smartphone, the solution offers convenience and ease of use for healthcare professionals.
The company said that the solution operates without inferring medical conditions or bypassing the critical role of BH prescribers and professionals.

By GlobalDataNextGen Ambient Assist is designed to understand natural speech and immediately identify medical acronyms, including those specific to BH.
The solution is notably entirely technology-driven, eliminating the need for scribes while offering the option to involve human oversight if desired.
After a prescriber reviews and edits the automatically generated visit note on their mobile device, it is securely integrated into the NextGen Enterprise electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring accurate and complete client records.
In addition, it requires no additional steps to transfer information into the EHR.
The company said that this new platform prioritises client privacy, with assurances that audio and transcripts are not stored or saved.
NextGen Healthcare CEO David Sides said: “In today’s healthcare landscape, the demand for psychiatric services far outweighs available resources, leaving many clients desperately waiting for care.
“NextGen Ambient Assist helps minimise the documentation burden on behavioural health professionals and enables them to devote more time to patient care while simultaneously reducing their own likelihood of burnout.
“This AI-driven technology is a significant step towards closing the gap in care accessibility that so many Americans face.”
Last month, NextGen Healthcare was selected as the preferred technology partner by United Medical Centers to enhance its integrated care delivery in bilingual communities located along the US-Mexico border.
