US-based healthcare network RWJBarnabas Health has purchased MamaAnne, an advanced full birthing simulation mannequin, for its Institute for Nursing Excellence.
The technology is intended to enhance the training of nurses, physicians, and labour and delivery clinical care teams by allowing them to practice a wide range of labour and delivery scenarios.

These include both routine childbirth and complex emergencies such as breech births, postpartum haemorrhage and neonatal resuscitation.
The mannequin’s lifelike anatomy and functionality are designed to increase the team’s ability to deliver safe, quality care.
RWJBarnabas Health executive vice-president and chief nursing officer Nancy Holecek said: “This is a one-of-a-kind addition for The Institute, and to acquire this state-of-the-art technology represents a significant milestone in our commitment to nursing excellence.
“By providing our nurses with realistic, hands-on experiences in a controlled and supportive environment, we are preparing our nurses to respond confidently and competently to possible real-live clinical challenges during labour and delivery.”
