West Tennessee Healthcare and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital are set to offer specialised paediatric care to the children of West Tennessee in the US, as part of a collaboration.
The West Tennessee Healthcare board gave consent to a resolution approving the collaboration at a meeting.
The two organisations will seek approval from the State of Tennessee next month to develop a paediatric hospital-within-a-hospital licensed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital within Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Said to be the first of its kind in West Tennessee, the hospital is proposed to have paediatric experts from Le Bonheur and West Tennessee Healthcare.
Together, West Tennessee Healthcare and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital will work to improve access to expert paediatric care and develop comprehensive specialty programmes to enhance the health status of the children.
West Tennessee Healthcare president and CEO James (JR) Ross said: “We are so proud of the work we’ve done at West Tennessee Healthcare for many years taking care of children.
“We look forward to receiving approval to work with Le Bonheur Children’s to continue this worthy mission. Children in our region deserve all of us working together to ensure they grow up healthy, safe and strong.”
With Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital’s mobile medical unit in West Tennessee, Le Bonheur on the Move, children will be able to connect with a paediatric medical home.
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital president Michael Wiggins said: “Our organisations have a shared mission of improving the health of West Tennessee families, and we’re excited to work together to ensure that care is close to home for children.”
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital has regional clinics and a 255-bed hospital.
