American Hospital Dubai has utilised Novarad’s VisAR Augmented Reality Navigation System in a surgical procedure.

Dr Parviz Dolati used the system during the resection of a complex solitary fibrous tumour (Hemangiopericytoma).

The VisAR system, with its capabilities in image placement, continuous registration, and instrument tracking, played a role in the successful resection of the tumour, which involved the superior sagittal sinus.

The real-time 3D visualisation provided by the system enabled Dr Dolati and his surgical team to navigate and maintain safety throughout the surgery procedures.

Dr Dolati said: "I compared this amazing navigation system with Medtronic, and I reached the same accuracy with a significantly higher number of options in terms of real-time window levelling, detailed 3D visualisation of the tumour, and blood vessels."

Dolati stated that the VisAR system aids in decision-making, especially during intricate and sensitive surgical procedures.

This technology serves as a tool for enhancing surgical precision and reducing risks in challenging surgical procedures.

The next-generation surgical navigation system VisAR is said to provide the precision of a robot and can project the imaging data of a patient into a 2D or 3D hologram.

The partnership between the American Hospital Dubai and Novarad underscores the hospital's dedication to adopting new technologies and enhancing patient outcomes.

Furthermore, the successful use of the VisAR system in surgery demonstrates the potential of augmented reality in improving surgical navigation and healthcare delivery.
