HMD Foundation, the CSR arm of Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices, has donated a mobile testing laboratory, iLAB, to Amrita Hospital in Faridabad, India.

The foundation provided financial assistance of more than Rs10m ($121,042) for the procurement of the iLAB unit.

This donation aims to support the hospital in providing medical care to the people in Faridabad and surrounding areas.

Called the 'Rural & Societal Outreach Health Programme', the initiative focuses on addressing healthcare challenges by offering general health check-ups, routine testing, and blood sample collection, especially in remote and rural areas.

Amrita Hospital medical director Sanjeev K Singh said: “With close to 30-40 basic screening tests available, the unit encompasses all the essential parameters typically covered in annual health check-ups.

“In addition, we have the capability to handle molecular biology testing in case of disease outbreaks like Covid-19 or TB.

“The unit would act as a collection centre and facilitate transportation of samples and referral testing, bringing advanced diagnostics directly to the community."

Equipped with Indian-made equipment and staffed with medical professionals, the iLAB unit is expected to facilitate easy access to diagnostics and medical services.

The initiative aims to reach over a million people in the region.

Amrita Hospital administrative director Swami Nijamritananda Puri stated: “We recognise that healthcare facilities in rural and remote areas leave much to be desired, and through initiatives, we intend to aggressively address this gap."

Puri added: “Carrying the latest diagnostics equipment onboard with the capability to generate lab reports, this mobile unit would serve as a lifeline for the people, enabling early detection and effective management of prevailing health issues.”
