Nonprofit, community-directed health system Aspirus Health is expanding Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium, Michigan, with an investment of $31.1m.
Scheduled to commence onsite work in June, the project is anticipated to reach completion by March 2027.
Miron Construction has been appointed as the general contractor, while HGA Architecture will work as an architect.
The project outlines a 28,000ft2 expansion and a comprehensive modernisation plan for the hospital.
It includes relocating services from the existing 1920s-era building to a new addition.
The redesign of inpatient rooms is tailored to meet current and future healthcare demands, while imaging, lab, and pharmacy services will be centralised for improved community access.
Aspirus Health interim president for Michigan region Sherry Bunten said: “The 1920s building has served us well for over 100 years, but it’s time to take the next step.
“By relocating all services under one roof, we’re not only modernising our facility—we’re enhancing the patient experience and positioning ourselves to better meet the healthcare needs of today and tomorrow.”

Earlier this year, Aspirus Health announced the acquisition of a 22.1-acre site in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, US, with plans to start building a new hospital this spring.
This initiative is expected to fill healthcare service gaps in the region and advance patient care.
