French hospital, Centre Hospitalier de Béziers, has announced plans to deploy Sectra's digital pathology solution to expedite cancer diagnosis.

Through the deployment of Sectra’s offering, the hospital plans to improve workflow efficiency and the consistency of pathology reviews.

The hospital entered into an agreement to leverage the digital pathology solution in the second quarter of Sectra's 2024/2025 fiscal year.

Centre Hospitalier de Béziers chief pathologist Dr Evangeline Guzman said: “Going digital within our pathology operations will provide us with tools necessary for an efficient workflow.

“It will also enhance the collaboration between our region’s hospitals, facilitating sharing of resources and expertise so that we can ensure precise and accurate diagnoses and faster cancer care for our patients.”

The hospital integrated the digital solution alongside traditional microscopes, enabling pathologists to review their processes, collaborate effectively on cases, and leverage AI tools.

This digital workflow offers immediate, and when necessary, remote access to digital images of tissue samples, eliminating the reliance on physical glass slides viewed under microscopes.

Serves people in the West-Hérault territory, the 1,170-bed hospital employs nearly 2,700 professionals and around 250 doctors across five sites.

Sectra France president Fabien Lozach said: “Providing high-quality care, especially in complex cases like cancer, is increasingly challenging for smaller hospitals.

“Digital pathology is an important part of the solution and we have seen tangible positive outcomes in France when technology has enabled deepened collaboration between care providers to better support patients in their regions.”
