Children’s National Hospital to adopt Kyndryl technology

The partnership aims to reduce friction at technical touchpoints to ensure seamless operations.

November 16 2023

US-based children's hospital Children’s National Hospital has begun working with IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl to enhance the technology experience for its workers.

The hospital aims to streamline its IT operations by using Kyndryl's tools, including artificial intelligence for IT operations (AIOps).

Kyndryl will also equip the hospital with automation functionalities to predict and prevent problems in network and security operations.

The partnership aims to ensure seamless operations across the hospital's main facility and 32 specialty care and primary care offices by reducing friction at technical touchpoints.

In addition, Kyndryl will modernise and manage daily tools such as Microsoft 365.

It will establish a dedicated IT desk for quick support and work with the hospital to streamline its technology stack by removing redundant applications and technical debt.

The goal is to optimise resources and expedite future innovations such as moving key workloads to the Cloud.

Children's National executive vide-president and chief information officer Matt MacVey said: “As a paediatric hospital, our caregivers are dealing with important moments for children and their families.

“Our information services must empower our staff to maintain their unwavering focus on delivering exceptional care."

Kyndryl US president Amy Salcido said: “While we are not at the bedside, we carry the immense responsibility of supporting caregivers.

“Our dedication to Children’s National goes beyond technology; it’s about enhancing the patient and caregiver experience through every touch point.”

Based in New York, Kyndryl designs, builds, manages and modernises information systems for customers in more than 60 countries.

In August this year, the company partnered with Care New England, a non-profit healthcare system in Rhode Island, in an effort to enhance patient care.

The partnership involved consolidating multiple electronic medical record (EMR) systems into one end-to-end system with EMR provider Epic.

It was intended to transform data management, drive service expansion and improve accessibility to care.

The aging population is a captive market for medical devices

With rising pressure on governments, payers, and manufacturers to reduce healthcare costs, innovative medical technologies have tremendous potential to improve elder care. Advancements in medical device technology have resulted in a significant increase in the number of conditions that can be managed in a home care setting. To capitalize on this strong demand and growth, manufacturers are increasingly producing consumer-targeted equipment.
