The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) has selected Humata Health as a key partner to streamline clinical approvals.
Humata will serve as a partner for CMS’ Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction (WISeR) model, aimed at making approvals faster and fairer.
The WISeR initiative focuses on protecting patients and Medicare funds.
Set to launch in January 2026 across Arizona, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Texas and Washington in the US, this model targets 17 items and services that are prone to waste, fraud, abuse and potential for patient harm.
Humata will be the primary technology partner in Oklahoma, managing all WISeR prior authorisation requests for providers, applying Medicare criteria for rapid automated approvals.
The company’s AI technology accelerates approvals by aligning clinical documentation with Medicare policies, delivering decisions in days rather than weeks to streamline care. It approves requests immediately but does not deny them.
Humata Health founder and CEO Jeremy Friese said: “Humata’s core mission is to ensure that every patient receives the right care as quickly as possible. We feel a profound responsibility to prove that this can be done the right way.
“We look forward to partnering with CMS and medical providers across Oklahoma to leverage our technology to help ensure that every patient journey is one of transparency, speed and safety. This is a defining opportunity to set a new standard – one where technology finally brings physicians and payers together – for the good of the patient.”
Knee arthroscopy for seniors serves as an example of low-value service selected for the WISeR model.
In July 2025, CMS spearheaded an initiative in collaboration with major technology companies to create a patient-centric healthcare ecosystem.
