Healthcare provider CoxHealth in Missouri, US, has collaborated with Philips to co-design an in-house virtual care solution.

The virtual care solution is aimed at enhancing bedside care thereby improving patient outcomes and staff satisfaction.

According to the press statement, the solution integrates Philips eCareManager telehealth software and Philips Capsule Surveillance software, leveraging AI and clinical algorithms to synthesise patient data and provide meaningful information for identifying at-risk patients.

This technology will be added to every in-patient ICU and medical-surgical patient room at CoxHealth hospitals, with a goal of implementing it in around 700 beds by the end of this year.

This solution is said to combine in-house expertise with enterprise-wide technology to improve workflow efficiency.

The centralised database of patient information guarantees both bedside and virtual care teams can consistently access the most current and relevant data.

Philips Capsule Surveillance continuously analyses live-streaming medical device and patient data to identify actionable insights, facilitating proactive care.

CoxHealth senior vice-president and system chief nursing officer Beth Polivka said: “The excitement from our clinical staff about this [new way of working] is overwhelming.

“Because of this change in our approach to care, we have experienced nurses coming back to us that may have left before because they weren’t sure if they wanted to continue doing bedside care.

“Our staff has reported feeling better supported in providing the best patient care.

“In addition to improved clinical outcomes, including a reduction in central line infections and readmissions, we also anticipate this being a big differentiator for us with the recruitment of staff, and we look forward to welcoming even more talented people to our team.”
