Construction company CPB Contractors has secured a tender to lead the design stage of the new Bundaberg Hospital in Queensland, Australia.

The A$1.2bn ($800.45m) project aims to provide 121 new beds and increase the healthcare capacity in the Wide Bay region.

The hospital will offer various services, including intensive care, and medical, surgical, paediatric, and mental health units, as well as an expanded emergency department.

Early works for site access were concluded earlier this year while design and enabling works will continue this year.

Major construction work is expected to commence next year, with completion anticipated in H2 2027.

Approximately 2,880 jobs are expected to be created through the project.

The Queensland government has awarded over A$8bn ($5.33bn) in hospital tenders to expand healthcare infrastructure across the state, with more than 1,570 additional hospital beds.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said: “This is big news for Bundy and the thousands of families who call this region home.

“Our government is delivering on our commitment to provide Queenslanders right around the state with better healthcare, closer to home.

“This new hospital will expand capacity in the Wide Bay Region while improving the availability of surgical, paediatric, and mental health facilities for those who need it.

“But this investment isn’t just about bricks and mortar, it’s about creating more frontline nurse, doctor, and allied health jobs for those who live and work in the region while providing the care Queenslanders need.”
