Care Resource Community Health Centers is set to open its newly expanded 45,000ft² Little Havana Health Center in Miami, Florida, US.

Set to open on 27 May 2025, the new facility aims to enhance healthcare access for the Little Havana neighbourhood's residents.

This strategic expansion is expected to provide care for up to 20,000 patients a year, which is more than twice the capacity of the previous facility.

Care Resource interim CEO and chief medical officer Dr Steven Santiago said: "Our aim is to keep families healthier and reduce avoidable hospital visits, ensuring they receive the right care at the right time."

The centre’s healthcare services are designed to enhance coordination and lessen care delays for patients dependent on consistent medical support.

Little Havana has inadequate healthcare resources, with many residents facing limited insurance, transportation difficulties, and a scarcity of healthcare providers.

The new centre is tailored to bridge these gaps by offering integrated, full-service care in a single location.

It provides an array of services encompassing behavioural health services, primary and paediatric care, dental care, substance use treatment, and an on-site pharmacy.

It also features a medical laboratory, case management offices, and other support services to enhance patient care.

The Care Resource's expansion has led to an increase in adult exam rooms, paediatric exam rooms, and the number of behavioural health and case management staff has grown, enabling better service coordination and more personalised support.

In a community where nearly 30% of residents lack health insurance and 29% live in poverty, chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension are prevalent and often exacerbated by delayed care.

The facility is providing early screenings, consistent follow-ups, and coordinated treatment plans to address these issues.

Furthermore, it alleviates pressure on local emergency rooms and hospitals, contributing to the overall efficiency of the healthcare system.
