Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has broadened its reach in Northern New Jersey, US, with the launch of two new surgery and outpatient centres.

The expansion includes the launch of HSS Paramus – Midland Ave, and the HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center, the first HSS facility in the state focused on ambulatory surgical procedures.

The HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center, a 7,700ft² facility in Mahwah, is situated just ten miles from the new HSS Paramus – Midland Ave.

It has eight pre- and post-surgical bays, three operating rooms, and on-site central sterile processing.

Under the leadership of facility medical director Michael Ast, the centre will specialise in surgeries for spine, the hip and knee, foot and ankle, hand and wrist, as well as sports medicine.

Ast said: “By expanding access in New Jersey, more patients can receive timely outpatient procedures, reducing wait times, hospital burdens, and the need to travel into New York City.

“At the same time, our new centre is fully integrated with our main hospital, ensuring patients benefit from the same world-class diagnosis and treatment options.”

HSS Paramus – Midland Ave spans nearly 31,000ft² and offers 23 exam rooms.

The facility is equipped to provide care for a variety of conditions, including those affecting the hand and upper extremities, foot and ankle, hip and knee, and spine.

It also caters to endocrinology, paediatric orthopaedics, physiatry, rheumatology, and sports medicine.

The site features an imaging suite with MRI, x-ray, and EOS low-dose radiation imaging and a special procedures unit.

The outpatient centre is double the size of the existing HSS Paramus – Ridgewood Ave, enabling the expansion of services.

HSS Orthopedics Now is also available, offering expedited care for sudden injuries and pain for patients aged 12 and older.

These new sites complement the existing HSS presence in Paramus.

Earlier this year, HSS revealed a $7.5m support from The Kapnick Foundation for the establishment of an orthopaedic surgical centre in Naples, Florida, US.
